Issue 15

This time of year there is a lot of speculation about next season’s racing calendar and the individual programs of the most popular riders. Speculation on who will race the Giro or the Tour or both, who will skip the Tour to focus on the Olympics, and who will be lining up for the monuments. We, of course, enjoy that speculation, but it has also inspired us to start considering our own 2024 program. We won’t be lining up for any actual races, but we do hope to plan some memorably challenging rides, participate in a Fondo or two, and see some new roads. Where will your bike take you next season?

Every time we’ve visited NYC we’ve either used public transportation to get around or just walked. On our last visit, we had time to burn and spent a good amount of time wondering around Central Park with no agenda. During that peripatetic day we made note of two things: we saw and appreciated a number of daring bike messengers; we also saw and appreciated a small peloton of cyclists cruising around one of the roads in the park. In both cases, we thought to wondered quietly to ourselves whether we’d try riding our own bike in Manhattan. After reading this Postcard from New York by Pas Normal Studios, we now pretty sure we’d give it a try.
