I enjoy watching cycling. I also enjoy cycling. I also enjoy cycling with my daughter and (when she can tolerate it) watching the sport of cycling with my daughter. While I appreciate the fact that my daughter often offers to go on a bike ride with me because she knows that I’ll enjoy it, I am also aware that her excitement for the sport is never more apparent than when we are watching a race featuring women. Nevertheless, for her to have a future in cycling, she may need more than my encouragement or to see herself represented on the television—according to Rouleur magazine, there needs to be wider and deeper societal changes. Take a moment to consider how closing the gender gap in sport is essential for the future of cycling.
