Milan-Sanremo, known as La Classicissima or La Primavera, is a very long race (288km to be precise). It is also the first Monument of the season, which means an impressive start list and a peloton full of racers with their eyes set on victory. Yet, with all of the importance of a Monument and all of the talent of a Grand Tour, this race is sometimes derided as dull and boring. This is an opinion which we do not hold, and neither does Peter Cossins. In “The Best Hour of the Road Racing Season?”, written for La Course en Tête, Cossins challenges us to consider why this race makes for enjoyable viewing.
