Issue 8

The 2023 road racing season came to an end this past week, and many of the pros are heading into their off season. Not us though. We’re just getting started with the OTB cycling digest, and we’re looking forward to highlighting the many other facets of cycling culture over the next few months. For example, endurance cycling and bike packing. We have a buddy who just this week took off on a week-long bike-packing trip. We were a bit jealous, but we wouldn’t have been prepared even if we had the time. Since we can’t join him, we’re opting to live vicariously through his stories and the exploits of other, accomplished long-distance cyclists.

Someday we’d like to tackle a long-distance, multi-day backpacking trip. We haven’t got around to doing one yet. We’re pretty happy when we carve out time to spend a single day on the bike, let alone a string of days. Also, we’re not even sure where to start in order to mentally and physically prepare ourself for such an adventure. I’m sure we’d read some articles, watch some videos, and listen to some podcasts. We’d definitely read Rouleur’s write up on Cynthia Frazier, the ultra cyclist and winner of many of the premier endurance bike races. We already like the number one piece of advice: eat more food.

The Tour de France Femmes may end on top of L’Alpe d’Huez. Evidently, people enjoy watching cycling, but we knew that. Cyclists are good people, but we know that too. This t-shirt is the very definition of OTB.
